Mysterious Aztecs

Aztecs is the dominant culture of the postclassical period. They populated densely Mexico region and started to control the big territories of the Central America in the North.

The origins of Aztecs connect the motion of immigrants to the Mexico territory. And every tribe created its own little country the ruling dynasties of which were the children of Toltecs and adapted their ideology of ruling.

Aztecs were nomads in the beginning travelling from less fertile lands to the most fertile ones. There was no much land on the territory where they came to. But when they passed through some territory they left good roads, and the places for sacrifice. And their travelling ended when they came to the islands near the Western coast of the Texoco Lake where according to the legend they saw the sign that meant that there would be their capital on this territory. The eagle was holding the snake in its beak sitting on the cactus.

Aztecs spent a lot of time and efforts building their cities and agricultural systems around them. The centre Tenochtitlana was the saint territory that had the six meters height pyramid with the temples to the god of rain and the god of war. It was also the place of the priests' living and a big hall where the skulls of thousands of sacrificed people were keeping. The saint centre was surrounded by the palaces of rulers, two main markets and the houses of other citizens were behind them.

The agriculture was rather developed and depended on the water system control. These systems were responsible for both the water supply and the lake drying.
